I love a good hat. In my 20's, I was known to wear a white wool beret in winter, a navy fedora with my pinstripe suit on Sundays and a tweed newsboy cap for outings in the city. I worked in a clothing store, or as I like to call it, the fashion exchange system. I spent my days selling things for Nordstrom, they paid me, and I gave my paycheck back at the end of the month to cover my in-store credit card bill. I didn't make a lot of money, but I do have a fabulous former wardrobe tucked away in my closet.
These days, I've scaled down a bit. In fact, I rarely wear hats now at all. Sasquatch sightings are probably more common than seeing me with my head covered. There might be a simple baseball cap brought out on summer days when the weather is especially hot, but even that is rare. Not exactly fashionable or edgy. That's a shame, in my opinion. I love stylish clothing, and wearing something beautiful just for the heck of it.
A woman who can pull off a lovely chapeau has my admiration. She must have confidence, grace, and flare. These are some of my favorite hats from the royal wedding.
This is Charlene Wittstock, Prince Albert of Monaco's fiancee, looking elegant.
A trio of youthful beauties . . . They can pull off the avant-garde.
Both the father and mother of the bride wore hats. How distinguished!
Prime Minister Nick Clegg's wife, Miriam Durantez shines in this exotic creation. It's perfect with her striking looks and dark hair.
My favorite, Princess Letizia of Spain. What a gorgeous lady! The delicate feathers and netting are just right. A five-star hat!
Friends, I promise to move on from the royal wedding love fest, but first, I must ask. Do you like hats?
I like hats, but don't wear them. They just don't look good on me. There were some interesting hats at the royal wedding, for sure.
ReplyDeleteYes. I'd wear them if they were still in fashion.
ReplyDeleteI love hats on other people!! I love all the hats on show at the Wedding too!!! You really needed such aplomb to pull off these elegent ones!! I sort of liked Princess Beatrice (or was it Eugenie's!??!) cos they wore these very cheeky mad crazy hats and I thought - well, they're young and eccentric, why not?!?!
ReplyDeleteTake care

Gorgeous hats.
ReplyDeleteI do like hats. I never used to wear them because they screwed up my curly hair, but now that I wear it straight, I like wearing hats sometimes.
Hats look great on the right people. If I try to wear a hat I feel like I'm trying to be someone I'm not...someone ultra cool and trendy.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun watching all the unique hats I saw on TV for the Royal Wedding.
ReplyDeleteThe wedding hats were incredible - some gorgeous, others just plain old bizarre! It's all part of the fun!
ReplyDeleteI love hats!! And I must say that my favorites are the first one and that exotic looking one on the prime minister's wife. What a great post Roxy. There's just something so feminine and old fashioned about hats like this that I just love. I wish I had one, and someplace to wear it too!
ReplyDeleteI admire a woman who can wear a hat. I think it takes practice - like walking in heels without wobbling. I love the first one for its elegance and the second for its beauty.
ReplyDeleteI adore hats! Really, I had to stop buying them years ago because I have so many. Life is too short to go without hats.
ReplyDeleteJai
Hats reallly don't loook good on me. But I just love the hats in this post!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of hats, but I've got this big head so I can't just walk into a store and buy one...and I'm too cheap to pay for the special-order ones that would fit.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd wear a hat to a very glamorous occasion. I was very tempted the other day to buy a fleecy beret. After reading this perhaps I'll go back and check it out again. :)
ReplyDeleteLove hats! My collection is getting too big for the cabinet I keep them in. I used to not wear them thinking they looked...just not me. Then I thought, If I loved them and want to wear them, then how could they not be me? I have a fedora with this fabulous pink flower I tucked on the brim and I LOVE it. Every time I wear it I feel fabulous! (even though I mostly wear it when I am just out of the shower and have wet hair)
ReplyDeleteAlways, always, always, always wanted to wear a hat. Always.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I will some day.
We really ought to throw a shindig around here just so we have to wear a hat. Hat required. Husbands and children banned. We can sit around in the shade somewhere and sip on simple fruit drinks out of elegant glasses. . . .
