Happy Wednesday!
How is everyone? I am working in my garden today and folding the Mt. Everest of laundry teetering in my basement. Too bad Rex-the-fish is no longer around to keep me company. :( What are you up to?
Besides blogging.
Speaking of which, have you seen Carol Valdez Miller's *long, drawn out drum roll with pencils on desk* First Vlog? I intentionally put that in capitals and italics. It's hilarious! Loved it. I need a mask like hers to go with my cloak of doom. Check this vlog out, people. Carol's Prints you rock. I could never do something that cool.
I always enjoy reading your posts, blogging buddies. You make me laugh, teach me things, allow me to be a part of your friendly circle. A blog is awesome because of what the blogger does with it, right? Hence the title of this post--Awesome Is As Awesome Does. Now, for scientific research, and just because I'm curious, I'd like you to tell me what draws you to a certain blog--why do you love it, how does the blogger capture your attention, what special tricks do they use?
Share, brilliant buddies, I'm all ears.
Well, your blog always captures my attention!
ReplyDeleteWord wise-- I think a sense of humor is very important as well as a unique writing style.
Appearance wise-- graphics that aren't overdone. If it hurts my eyes to look at, chances are I won't be revisiting it.
It's part writing style/subject matter and part personality. I find I'm more drawn to some because of things we have in common.
ReplyDeleteI seriously need to put MY laundry away. It fills up one of those big storage bins...ugh
A pic of Danny Craig works for me. Or a furry critter or Danny with a furry critter.
ReplyDeleteThey all work! :-)
And also bloggers recommending others - like you've done here! :-)
take care

Writing style, graphics of the site, and the familiarity that develops with certain blogfriends...like you, Roxy ;-)
ReplyDelete:) I like a blog that entertains me....makes me laugh! I follow a lot of writers blogs and while writing tips and how to's are sometimes helpful, I can find most of that info myself when I need it. I like connecting with people and hearing about the writer's life. I like to commiserate and celebrate!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday to you!
ReplyDeleteI like someone with a positive attitude!
I am off to paint a room....
I like upbeat, pithy blogs. :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes I like informative ones and sometimes just funs ones.
For me it is the combination of the visuals, and writing style. It is hard to explain in a way...like when you go to several department stores, and you suddenly see something you just have to get a closer look at. :-)
ReplyDeleteIf someone posts on my blog, I want to read their blog. Once I start reading one I find, I tend to stick with it by going to the dashboard and seeing the beginning of the posts. I also follow a lot of book bloggers' blogs because I love reading book reviews.
ReplyDeleteugh i hate folding clothes so much. SO then i put it off and get all irritated when my clothes are covered in wrinkles.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet, i never learn...
This may sound weird, but I read the bloggers who follow me, because I feel like we connect some way. At least I hope so, because they are so cool! =D
ReplyDeleteI like blogs that make me think about the world in new and different ways!
ReplyDeleteI love Carol's vlog :)
ReplyDeleteI'm drawn to blogs that are generally fun and upbeat (I don't mind the occasional rant or two!) I enjoy people who are 'real' - you can spot a fake a mile away. I like shorter posts too - I read a lot of blogs and if the posts are long I skim.
Hmm...it's often a zippy post title that draws me. I like thoughtful posts with a mix of humor when appropriate. Posts that get me thinking deeper about why I write, or how I could be doing it better, or about what makes literature such a powerful force in the world, those are great too.
ReplyDeleteI like mid-length posts. Not too hit-and-run or too meandering.
Oh boy! That's a tough question actually. I like blogs that make me laugh, that teach me craft, and mostly that I feel I connect with on a personal level. Does that cover it?? :)
ReplyDeleteI love connecting with people, and when I find common threads in someone's blog - I'm hooked! Love yours, Miss Roxy!
ReplyDeleteWhat draws me to a blog is someone who interacts with their followers and has either interesting, funny, helpful, or quirky posts.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to think about your question more deeply before I try to answer it. I don't think I can come up with just one answer right now.
ReplyDeleteJai
Hey girl, I think personality is what draws me in the most.
ReplyDeleteThe more I follow and that follow me, the more I have a difficult time getting around to all the blogs I love. There are so many fabulous blogs!
Happy Weekend, love.
Hi Roxy, love your blog!
ReplyDeleteFor me it would be writing style and content. I'm a writer so i'm looking for fellow writers and then the style, friendly and personality.
Yours is fun!
I like it when the blogger's voice and personality is revealed through his/her posts.
ReplyDeleteFor book blogs, I check to see if the majority of the books featured match my taste.
For writing blogs, I look for helpful hints, tips, and insights.
With any blog, I think interaction through commenting is important.
I don't which blogs I like. Maybe those whose author shares my struggles, joys, setbacks that come with teaching and/or writing. Especially writing. They can't be too long but they need to have substance. And having Daniel Craig in a few posts doesn't hurt!
ReplyDeleteI'm not actually here. :) I'm just dropping off the new address for my site. Its thoughtsbylilahpierce.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteOk, so how much do I love you right now? I so <3 you, Miss Roxy. And your own blog is pretty rockin, you know. It's beautiful to look at, you're hilarious, but you also have heart, and I feel like I can relate to you. And you post pics of Daniel Craig, feeding a need I hadn't realized existed.
ReplyDeleteYou, my dear, are made of awesome.
