Dream State

Had I the heaven' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."

Aedh Wishes For The Cloths Of Heaven by William Butler Yeats

I quoted this months ago, but here I am doing it again. I love, love, love it. Yeats gave his dreams and his heart to Maud Gonne, the woman for whom he wrote this poem. It was the best he had to offer.

Writers are certainly dreamers, and I'd like to think we put our hearts into our stories. Just like Yeats.

What are your dreams for your writing? I'd love to hear, blogging buddies.

If you haven't dropped by lovely Lola's blog, Sharp Pen/Dull Sword, please do so. It's definitely dreamy and one of the best blogs around.

I found this handsome man online in the Neiman Marcus suit shop. (I like to shop vicariously;) He reminds me of the bad-boy-lawyer-later-redeemed-by-love-protagonist in my women's fiction novel, Charm Bracelet. He's pretty dreamy, too, eh?

  1. I write for myself. I am in love with my stories and that is all that matters to me. I do hope to see them in print one day, but it wouldn't bother me if it never happened.

  2. Love this quote, Roxy! Sigh. Dreams. So elusive.

  3. I just love to write and to read back what I've written. Does that sound terribly narcissistic? ;O)Reading others' delicious words is also yummy, too, so maybe I'm not so narcissistic after all.

  4. Yes, dreamy guy. Yes, dreamy writer. Sometimes I think I live too much in the fantasy life. My dreams are to finish writing a play and have a read-through with some acting friends. Then, perform it locally and see where it goes from there. Then, on to the next project.

    I'm catching up from your last three posts. Totally with you on the teaching the boy to drive angst. And, yes, I work from home, and as the mother of 4, I also get distracted by the work they create even when they're all at school. That's why I wrote at the coffee shop this morning.

  5. Oh my, he is dreamy!

    I'm also a dreamer. I think I spent most of my childhood dreaming things up, fantasizing about the lives I wanted to lead. I think I was destined to either be a writer or an actress. It lets me live out the fantasies, I guess.

    P.S. Love Lola!

  6. Hot *Sigh*

    Okay, first I need to laugh because when I read the poem, I though you had written it and I was like ... whoa. LoL.

    Second, my dreams for writing? Oh, my--that might be harder. Domination? Kidding. Recognition? Not really. Just feeling legit? Yeah--I'll settle for that one. :o)

  10. I can definitely see this dude as a bad-boy-lawyer-type. :) He could turn me into an even bigger dreamer.

  11. I write because the stories 'need' to be told. Or at least put on paper;0)

  14. Hello! I feel like I am finding old friends now that I'm back to blogging more often. The summer was so lovely, though.

    I always thought I was a dreamer but I am coming to find that I am more of a realist. Interesting, seeing myself in a new way. Of course, my writing is mainly fiction, so we all dream that up. :)

    What I truly hope for my writing, and I've been thinking about a blog entry on this, is for my own children to have a window into their mom. Whether or not it gets published isn't really my biggest thing, although it'd be great, but I want my children to be able to read the crazy stories that are in my head, even when I am gone, and know me better than I know my mom (who, thankfully, is not gone).
