Play It Again . . . Casablanca

I made this little homage to Casablanca over at the absolute best time-waster ever--Polyvore! I chose clothes that reminded me of Ingrid Bergman's wardrobe in the film. All gorgeous, just like her.

Casablanca was released in 1942, but it's characters still remain undated. The dialogue is smart, sad, and wry. Who could forget Rick Blaine? He said that he came to Casablanca for the waters, but I watch the movie for him. And Ingrid Bergman. She played her part to luminous perfection. Only Ilsa could knock Rick Blaine to his knees.

The one thing I'd change about Casablanca is the ending . . . I wish Rick and Ilsa didn't have to sacrifice so much for the greater good. Yet, maybe the reason this movie stays with us is because they did.

And so, I play it again. And again. And again.

Tell me, friends. Do you have a favorite classic movie?

In your opinion, does wardrobe contribute to character development in books and films?

  1. I love all period drama films and classic B&W's. Gone with the Wind is an all time favorite. Casablanca another! And wardrobe does most certainly contribute to the charatcter development in my humble opinion!

  2. Polyvore is wonderful! I've never made a collage but I love to browse.

I think wardrobe contributes a lot to a film or book. I like "knowing" a character through how they look and dress.

My favorite classic movie? White Christmas and I LOVE the wardrobes in that one!

  5. Ooh you can't get more classic that gorgeous Casablanca - and you can't get more luminous that the stunning Ms Bergman!! Oh the close-ups, the little sideways glances, the perfect tiny teardrops in her eyes as she says goodbye to Rick. Sigh.

My other favourite classic is Brief Encounter.

Wardrobe is so important!!!! Like Lana Turner in the Postman Always Rings Twice. She wore pure pure snow white outfits that masked her darkest sordid heart.
    Take care

  6. I have many favorite classics, so narrowing to one is difficult. As a romantic, I like The Adventures of Robin Hood. Yes, wardrobe contributes to character development in films, and in books as well, if they are described in vivid detail.

  7. I have never seen this movie... maybe it's because I know it's not a happily ever after and just can't do it. :O)

  9. Weren't the clothes in the 1940s gorgeous? Sigh. I enjoy some of those somewhat hokey musicals from back in the day like Singing in the Rain and Holiday Inn. They're just really fun.
